Apples

We've got a fun family tradition of going apple picking with some friends of ours. We had a beautiful warm Sunday outing last week.

And this year, for the first time, we got together with our friends the next day to make homemade applesauce.

We made 7 1/2 quarts of delicious applesauce!

We finished our evening with some dinner and dessert to celebrate the Feast of the Archangels. Our friend E. is named after one of the Archangels so we celebrated her feast day!

Seeing Christ in the Mirror

"Gaze upon that mirror each day... and continually study your face within it, that you may adorn yourself within and without with beautiful robes, covered... with the flowers and garments of all the virtues. Indeed, blessed poverty, holy humility, and inexpressible charity are reflected in that mirror, as, with the grace of God, you can contemplate them throughout the entire mirror" (Saint Clare - Letter 4 to Agnes, 15-18). The mirror of which she spoke was the face of Christ. But if we cannot discern that face in our own how can we hope to discern it in others?

Loving God, our Creator and Redeemer, you have called us into your own wonderful light. You have granted us the grace to gaze daily on your glory with faces unveiled. May we continue each day, with our faces unveiled, reflect like mirrors Your undying brightness, and come to grow brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect. Let us be the light shining in the darkness radiating to the whole world the light of the knowledge of God's glory.
